Description:
If you ever find yourself on the east side of the state and
you’re a huge beer fan, One Eyed Bettys is worth checking out. The restaurant
is in Ferndale just a little off of Woodward Avenue, near the post office. It
can sometimes be a really happening place so it’s best to call ahead and see
how long the wait could be, especially on the weekends.
According to their website, One Eyed Bettys has 44 rotating
beers on tap “+1 for root beer,” as well as “2 soda pop handles, beer engine,
draft champagne, umpteen whiskies, pinball, live music and a kick-a** staff.” I
was almost overwhelmed by the beer list they had, but I stuck with what I know best and got the Forbidden Fruit cherry hard cider. Pretty good and perfectly sweet for my taste. If you’re interested in
trying several different things, a flight would probably be the way to go.
The food they had was amazing, decently portioned, and not
too pricey. I had the Impossible Burger, which I’ve talked about before, but as
a recap, “Impossible Burger cooks, smells and tastes like meat from cows, but
is made directly from plants — for people who love meat.” It was delicious as
always and I really liked the bun the put it on. We also got the “Looney
Shrooms” which are “beer-battered buttons with cream cheese, dried cherries,
goat cheese and herbs.” In other words, they were the best-tasting thing on the
planet and we got really sad when they were all gone. The portions for those
were pretty small, but still worth it.
Overall this place has a little bit of everything for their
menu and guaranteed everyone can find something they’d like to try because the
variety is so great. I’ve also heard that they have a pretty amazing breakfast
on the weekends that I’ll have to try at some point. They open a little later
on the weekdays because it’s mainly a night hangout spot. 4pm-2am Monday
through Friday and 9am-2am Saturday and Sunday.
Be sure to check out the bottle cap mural because it’s
pretty impressive. I wish I could give more information on this place, but in summary if
you’re a beer fan looking for a fun place to hang out and have many different
choices for food and drinks, One Eyed Bettys is where it’s at.
