LANSING, MI — Media partner WLNS Six News in Lansing is reporting General Motors is halting production in Lansing at its Grand River production facility due to a semiconductor shortage. The shut down will begin Monday March 15 and is expected to last through the end of March.
The shortage has caused similar issues at other plants across the country for Detroit’s Big Three automakers. The semiconductors are found throughout a vehicle in key components such as the seats and ignition.
GM has 1,400 employees at the Lansing Grand River Plant. The plant on Townsend Street in Lansing measures 3.4 million-square-feet and covers 111 acres just south of downtown Lansing.
