LANSING, MI — The reopening of US127 from I-96 to I-496 in Lansing is growing closer, according to MDOT officials.
“The project was originally scheduled to be complete for this year by December 6. Currently, we are right on that mark or a couple days ahead,” says Aaron Jenkins, MDOT spokesman. “The roadway is essentially complete. We have a few finishing touches on a couple bridges and restoring the site for the winter.”
It’s been a long summer of congestion for Lansing area drivers thanks to the road project. This will be the conclusion of rebuild work on the NB lanes of US127 for MDOT crews and contractors. However, MDOT says the SB lanes of US127 will be rebuilt beginning in March 2025.
Over the winter, the contractor is expected to start some work on the southbound side of the roadway, Jenkins says. Work will be limited to activities that would not impact traffic.
“Work for 2025 is expected to begin early in March. A week or two will be needed to move southbound traffic onto the northbound roadway for reconstruction of southbound. The work and maintenance of traffic will be very similar to what we had in 2024. The biggest difference is that we will have slightly wider lanes throughout the work zone and we will have two lanes open and greater mobility after June 2025. We will have a public meeting in February to discuss in detail – date and time TBD.”
