LESLIE, MI — Police in Leslie say a juvenile male was killed and another injured by a downed power line near Leslie Tuesday evening. The deceased teenager apparently electrocuted after coming in contact with the power line.
The Leslie Fire Department was called out to the area of Woodworth Elementary School around 6 p.m. yesterday evening. Fire officials say that two boys were playing with a nearby power line, which fell and started a small grass fire.
The name of the deceased has not been release. Consumers Energy confirmed the incident in a press release last night:
Consumers Energy responded to an incident near Woodworth Elementary School in Leslie today. We are deeply saddened to confirm that one young person lost their life and another was injured after coming into contact with a live electric line. While we do not have updates on the condition of the injured individual, our thoughts are with their loved ones during this difficult time, and we are hoping for a full recovery. As a safety measure, we temporarily de-energized the electric circuit serving the area, affecting service to 488 customers. Our team is on site, investigating the situation.
