EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State’s Jase Richardson had his NBA dreams come true on Wednesday night. The former MSU freshman was selected by the with the No. 25 overall pick in the NBA Draft, becoming the first Spartan selected in the first round of the draft since 2018, when the green and white had two players selected – Jaren Jackson Jr. (No. 4 overall) and Miles Bridges (No. 12 overall).
As a freshman at MSU in East Lansing, Richardson sparked the team by averaging 12 points per game and being selected to the All-Big Ten Third Team. However, the NBA scouts convinced Richardson to give up his remaining years of eligibility and millions of dollars in NIL money to turn pro after just one season at State.
Richardson saw his draft stock rise and scored in double figures in 14 of MSU’s final 15 games of the season. He is the son of former Spartan hoops star Jason Richardson.
