LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Even though the primary election isn’t until next August, the race for governor in Michigan is generating big money already.
Current Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced Thursday she has raised over $3.5 million since launching her campaign in January, more than doubling the record set by Gretchen Whitmer in a Democratic primary during the last open race for governor.
Benson’s campaign says they have far surpassed the $1.5 million Whitmer raised in her first six months back in 2017.
Earlier this week Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist announced that he has raised more than $750,000 since launching his campaign for governor in March.
