LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A new report released by the National Low Income Housing Coalition is finding Michiganders need to earn at least $24.46 an hour to be able to afford a two-bedroom rental unit.
To afford a one-bedroom home, a person needs to earn $19.66 an hour.
Michigan’s average wage for people who rent their homes is $18.89 and the state’s minimum wage is $12.48.
The NLIHC says nearly half of all renters in Michigan are paying more than 30% of their income on rent and utilities.
