MENDON, MI — Sixteen Midwest Energy and Communications (MEC) employees volunteered this week at two sites in southwest Michigan for the cooperative’s annual Day of Action community service event.
Combined, volunteers donated more than 110 hours to assist with two projects. Volunteers worked at a Mendon-area home with Habitat for Humanity to build an accessibility ramp and storage room door, clean out a car port and storage room, and trim trees and bushes.
Meanwhile, in the Village of Mendon, MEC volunteers painted curbs downtown, spread mulch at area parks and playgrounds, and power washed sidewalks, benches, picnic areas, and pavilions.
Each year, MEC holds a Day of Action event as part of the cooperative’s vision of creating vibrant, relevant, and sustainable rural communities. MEC partners with local organizations and employees volunteer to spend the workday completing projects that will benefit the community.
Midwest Energy & Communications, based in Cassopollis, Mich., is a customer-owned electric cooperative.
