EAST LANSING, MI — Seven years after Michigan State University banned tailgating at Munn Field because of problems with excessive student partying, the school says it is reinstating the longstanding tradition this fall for home MSU football games.
Beginning this season, parking and tailgating will be permitted in the southwest section of Munn Field, with entrance off Birch Road, according to a press release from MSU. Cars will require a parking pass distributed by MSU athletics – no general parking is available, and “All-Event” staff parking passes will not be honored due to limited space. The lot will open five hours prior to kick off of games at Spartan Stadium.
The school says Meijer Fan Fest, which has been held on Munn Field since 2018, will continue to operate in the northeast corner of Munn Field.
The Spartans open this season this Friday night against Western Michigan with a 7:00 p.m. kick off at Spartan Stadium.
