LANSING, MI — There is now one less Republican candidate for governor in Michigan. Former Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard, R-DeWitt, announced on Thursday that he will withdraw from the Michigan governor’s race, according to a social media post.
“I’m not willing to compromise who I am or how I believe this campaign should be run in order to win,” he continued. “Michigan deserves better. And right now, that means coming together, focusing on what unites us, and doing everything we can to move our state forward in November.”
Leonard served as Michigan Speaker of the House during the last two years of his legislative term in Lansing.
