LANSING, MI — The Lansing Model Railroad Club is hosting its annual summer open house this Saturday. Hours are from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
The club boasts of over 700 square feet with model trains running and making realistic sounds on its HO scale layout, which is complete with cities, industrial scenes, rolling country sides, mountains, and bridges.
Visitors can even get a bird’s-eye view of all the action from an overhead walkway.
On Saturday, you also can tour the restored Michigan Avenue (MA) Tower that was moved to the club’s property in September 2016. Built in the early 1900s, MA Tower once controlled the Michigan Avenue railroad crossing gates and a railroad junction near downtown Lansing. It is the only surviving railroad tower from the Lansing area.
Lansing Model Railroad Club is located at 5309 Old Lansing Road in Lansing. The club is a 40-member, nonprofit organization founded in 1953. The club resides in the historic 1890s Millet railroad depot that was moved from the Grand Trunk Western Railroad property in the early 1960s.
