Rory McIlroy committed to participate in the FedExCup Playoffs opener at next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, the PGA Tour announced Friday.
McIlroy opted against competing at the playoff opener at TPC Southwind last year.
The six-time major champion will make just his 12th start of the season in the 70-golfer field in Memphis. He’ll join World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, defending FedExCup champion Tommy Fleetwood and defending FedEx St. Jude Championship winner Justin Rose, among others, in the event.
McIlroy, 37, has not played since The Open Championship last month. The Northern Ireland native will vie for his fourth FedExCup title. He is currently in 12th position in the FedExCup standings with his lone victory occurring at The Masters in April.
