OKEMOS, MI — Schools are opening across mid-Michigan this week and next, and in Okemos they are celebrating the opening of a brand new middle school.
The newly constructed Chippewa Middle School officially opens for the first day of classes on Wednesday Aug. 26. The building was funded as a part of the district’s $275 million bond, approved by voters in 2022, according to a press release from the school.
The construction of the 207,530-square-foot middle school is considered by school officials to be the cornerstone project of the bond work. Renovations at the school district’s Cornell Elementary are expected to take place over the next two years.
