EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State University President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, delivered his 2026 State of the University address at the Pasant Theatre in the Wharton Center for Performing Arts on Tuesday.
Guskiewicz highlighted the university’s research growth during the address, acording to a copy of his remarks. MSU is closing in on a major research goal, with leaders saying they are on track to reach $1 billion in annual research expenditures three years earlier than originally targeted.
“Michigan State faculty and academic staff are dreamers and doers. They are world-class researchers and educators who discover and share knowledge and drive our university’s global reputation,” he said during the address.
Guskiewicz also provided an update on MSU’s $4 billion fundraising campaign. He said nearly 64,000 donors contributed a record $736 million during the last fiscal year, bringing the campaign total to $1.94 billion.
Guskiewica also address the recent power outage on campus at the East Lanmsing school by thanking students for their patience and staff for their diligence.
“So my thanks to everyone in Infrastructure Planning and Facilities and to the emergency crews, residence and dining hall staffs and the many others who stepped forward to support our campus community, especially our students. And thanks to the faculty members who pivoted their courses and offered accommodations to mitigate the academic impacts on students that the situation created.”
