LANSING, MI — The Nest, a new day-to-night homeless shelter and resource center in downtown Lansing, will open its doors to the community for a public housewarming event on Wednesday, April 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The new shelter is located at 332 Townsend St. The event offers a first look inside the newly renovated building, just days before it welcomes those needing shelter beginning May 4.
Located in downtown Lansing near Reutter Park and Capital Area District Library’s downtown branch, The Nest includes 56 beds and prioritizes populations often overlooked by shelter systems, including veterans, single fathers and families with teens. The Nest will also serve hundreds of individuals during the day through its day center and resource hub, providing meals and services such as housing support, medical care, mail, laundry and more.
“Over just eight months, we’ve worked tirelessly toward The Nest’s opening day. We are honored to invite the community to tour the space,” said Shelbi Frayer, founder and CEO of The Nest. “The Nest represents what’s possible when people come together around a shared belief: that everyone deserves a positive place to land and the opportunity to move forward.”
