EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State University President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, with the support of the Board of Trustees, has selected Dan Bartholomae as the university’s next vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics.
Bartholomae currently serves as the vice president and director of athletics at Western Michigan University, where he has led the department since 2022.
“The future of college athletics will belong to institutions that embrace innovation while remaining grounded in their mission,” Guskiewicz said. “At Michigan State, that mission is clear: to provide our student-athletes with an experience that prepares them to compete at the highest levels, earn a world-class education and become leaders who make a difference long after their playing days are over. Dan shares that commitment and has the experience, vision and values to lead Spartan Athletics into its next era. We are excited to start this next chapter with him as our leader.”
In more than four years at Western Michigan, Bartholomae has guided Bronco Athletics to significant success, including multiple record-setting years in academic performance and community engagement, winning conference and national championships, and exceptional fundraising and external revenue growth. In 2026, he was named a finalist for the Sports Business Journal 2026 Athletic Director of the Year.
An introductory news conference welcoming Bartholomae to East Lansing is set for 1:0 p.m. on Wednesday.
